Viton™ Fluoroelastomers for Expansion Joints

Expansion Joints Meet the Demands of Harsh Mechanical and Environmental Conditions

The flexible nature of rubber expansion joints makes them ideal for many functions, including the relief of mechanical stress and absorption of sound, thermal energy, and shock.

A properly designed and engineered expansion joint made with Viton™ fluoroelastomers will retain its properties and keep working over a long period of time, reducing the need for maintenance and repair.

While expansion joints can be made from many types of rubber, those made with Viton™ high-performance fluoroelastomers can be designed for the most demanding applications. Many expansion joints work in harsh environments that might include excessive pressure and temperature or exposure to corrosive chemicals and the elements. Special Viton™ fluoroelastomer grades are uniquely formulated to impart additional properties, which includes resistance to:

  • Weather
  • Ozone and sunlight
  • Heat
  • Oil and gas
  • Acidic flue gas components
  • Chemicals

Additionally, these fluoroelastomers are able to retain these properties over a wide temperature range, enabling use across many industries, especially power utility and energy flue duct expansion joints and bellows.
